Guests stay in our Driftwood
Palaces, so called because the uprights and structural
members really were salvaged from the sea. There are
nine Palaces, none of which are more than five paces
from the beach. The Palaces are all of an above-ground
and open construction to take advantage of the prevailing
breezes and views, yet are sufficiently far apart
and cleverly designed to ensure complete privacy.
They all feature at least one, large four-poster bed.
The four-posters generally have a small fan and reading
lamps inside the mosquito netting for maximum convenience.
Most have roof-mounted fans as well. They all have
there own adjacent showers and flush toilets.

There are currently 13 king-size (double) four-poster
beds spread across the Palaces. Additionally the Big
House has 2 king-size day beds which can (and often
are) converted into comfortable night time beds. For
large groups there are at least 6 additional single
beds which can be moved around as well as extra mattresses.
Numerous hammocks and a few tents add additional flexibility.
The Palaces described below are also shown on the
map of the island (click “Island Layout &
Details”), so you can work out how to all fit
in.
The Main House
The Main House is the main dining area and bar. Tucked
high into this structure is a room with 1 king-size
four-poster bed. It has a terrific balcony view and
is perfect for a gregarious person or couple (as it
is above one of the music systems).
Driftwood Palace Number 1
This Driftwood Palace is adjacent to the Main House.
It has 1 king-size four-poster bed and a very small
adjacent room suitable for an adult (at a squeeze)
or for cots or mattresses for small children. This
Palace and the Main House share a shower and flush
toilet past the BBQ.
Driftwood Palaces Number 2 to Number 5
These are four large, identical, Driftwood Palaces.
Each has 2 king-size four-poster beds. These beds
are not in separate rooms. A couple of these Palaces
have fabulous wooden benches which, with a mattress
and linen are perfect as overflow accommodation. Additionally
they can all house one or (if they do not have the
wooden benches) two single beds which can be moved
in as requested. Each of these Palaces has an adjacent
shower and flush toilet.

Tree House
There is a king-size four-poster bed in the Tree House
which is suitable for an adventurous couple or kids.
The Tree House is necessarily small but cosy.
The Big House
Our newest addition is a giant Driftwood Palace with
a king-size four-poster bed and two double Balinese
day beds. It has an en-suite bathroom on the same
level. It was built for the personal use of the owner
of Pangkil and his family and we ask that extreme
care be taken by guests choosing to use this Palace.
We recommend that the group organizer ‘bags’
this one for herself/himself.
The Gazebo
The Gazebo is a charming structure overlooking the
pool. It currently has one king-size four-poster bed.
It is a little more ‘open’ than the other
Palaces and is generally used for massages during
the day. It can however be easily turned into an additional
dwelling (and often is), complete with blinds and
mosquito nets for the double bed.
Overflow Accommodation
There are at least 6 moveable, single beds which can
be placed in the Driftwood Palaces. It is suggested
that these are placed in the Big House or Palaces
2, 3, 4 or 5. We have a few large tents which can
be set up with double mattresses and placed anywhere
on the island. Some guests even choose to douse themselves
in insect repellent and sleep in the hammocks of which
there are at least half-a-dozen.
Mosquito Protection
All the double beds have high-quality mosquito nets.
The single beds can be rigged up with nets, but as
a minimum can be placed under a fan. Mosquitos are
not usually a problem, especially away from the pool.
A couple of mosquito coils at either end of the single
beds and a dab of DEET-based repellent behind the
ears usually does the trick. We are fortunate that
malaria is not carried by the mossies on the island.
We do not have sandflies/nicnics
Children’s Accommodation
We have four cute cots with mosquito netting for infants.
Other Accommodation Comments
We have had as many as 30 adults sleep on the island.
There is more space than there might seem from the
above descriptions. Please note that if you are bringing
maids to look after your kids, you’ll have to
slot them into one or more of the accommodation options
above. We do not have space in our staff quarters.
The group organizer generally assigns the accommodation.
Our staff will by default set up the driftwood palaces
based on the total numbers and perceived social dynamics.
For small groups, the group organizer can work out
who sleeps where upon arrival. Our staff members are
happy to set up the Palaces under your personal instruction.
For large groups (say more than 15 or 20 adults &
kids) you may want to email us the suggested sleeping
arrangements in advance.
Linen and towels are provided. The provision of toiletries
in the bathroom is limited so we suggest that you
bring your own.
